THE BRITISH NAVY.
MR. .MASSEY'S VIEWS. Smiie time ago the Wellington Navy League carried a motion urging (hat: “an ali-pmverfn! Navy, mercantile marine, and air force should be maintained, as factors essential tor the peace of the world." That resolution was forwarded to the Prime Minister (Right lion, W. f. Massey), who writes from Paris to the secretary as under: —“I thoroughly agree with the sentiment expressed in the resolution, and I will do everything possible to give effect to the wishes of the Navy League. T have already expressed strong opinions of the work performed hy the Royal Navy and the British 'Mercantile marine during the war period, and I trust that in the setting up of (he League of Nations no attempt will be made to reduce the strength of the British Navy, ns I feel certain that if such a course is adopted it would tend rather to encourage war than to assist in the maintenance of a permanent peace.”
