The Chairman submitted bis animal report as follows; —I am again sorry to report a still unfinished programme, but am glad to be able to say very considerable progress lias been made. I think the Board is to be specially congratulated upon (lie splendid response given by the district at the poll in reference to the proposals for (be purchase 01. (be wharf, and in improving the port. Arrangements are almost complete with the Railway Department', and the money for the payment of the wharf is ready to bo handed over. Until (he. Board can erect its own shed the Railway Dc-i parlment will handle the goods passing over the wharf, and will collect wharfages, etc., on behalf of the Board at a charge not yet quite settled. The Board cannot push ahead as it would like to, owing partly to the balance of the loan not being available until six months after the Avar, which probably means six months after the signing of peace terms. The estimate of cost of jm up-to-date dredge suitutile for the Board’s purposes is expected any day now from the makers, and if satisfactory no lime will be lost in procuring it, but we are told it will take a year to complete and deliver. The amount accrued for wharfages to December 31st, 1918, is £3,1-11). This will materially assist the Board in its efforts to develop the port. It is a recommendation to the ineoiiiing®Board to make application for the gran! of £‘2so for river improvement purposes, and to expend it in a better system of river lighting. 1 think the district can safely anticipate considerable progress during the current year in improved harbour facilities. Already applications are in for dislributing stores, and presently will be before the Board for consideration. It may lie a certain ainonnt of reclamation will have (o done to give the best results for such sites. I wish (o thank all members for their loyal support during the uphill struggle, and hope for the success the district deseiwes. BALANCE-SHEET.
