MAORIS ENTHUSIASTICALLY GREETED.
Auckland, April 0,
The steamer Westmoreland, with the Maori Pioneer Battalion aboard, arrived in the harbour last night, and being declared a clean ship, -the troops were landed this morning.
The Maoris wore greeted with the greatest enthusiasm, and were cheered as they marched to the Domain, headed by a band. Here Sir James Allen took the salute, and the men were given a typical native welcome by representatives of the tribbs who wore in camp at the Domain. Many speeches were made. Among those present were the Hon. W. 11. Herries, the Hon. Dr. Pomare, and Sir James Carroll.
The East Coast Maoris leave by Hie Mapourika to-night, and Sir James Allen will accompany them.
