THE PROHIBITION POLL.
Electors in New Zealand to-day would like very much to know how the 4-1 millions compensation, tangoing to be paid to the dead and gone liquor interests after April 10th. The sinking fund method will probably be employed. Payment by sinking fund simply means the payment of an even sum each year, over a given, number of ycarq, until a debt automatically ceases. Hundreds and thousands of folk to-day are paying back to building societies the loans on their homes or are repaying money advanced by the Ad-, vanees to Settlers Board. The process is similar to that of buying an article on the “easy terms’’ or “instalment” plan, of enjoying its use and convenience while we are paying it off, instead of waiting until we have found the ready cash. In the ease of liquor compensation, payment by sinking fund is doubly simple. The money drawn from liquor channels and transferred to healthier industries will give an increased return right away and payment of the compensation will he much easier than the burden of keeping (he trathe and its unhealthy results. Strike out the top line on Thursday next, 10th hist—right out !*
