Manawatu Herald THURSDAY, APRIL 3, 1919. WANTED A MAYOR.
PROM present indications it would appear that (he Mayoral election will gn by default. Our present worthy Mayor, Mr John Chrystall, lias definitely, decided not to offer himself for. re-election. Several prominent citizens who have been approached privately have refused “to lake the job on.” We would suggest that the local Chamber of Commerce and the Labour Party get to work and select suitable eundiihites pledged (o a deliuile policy. If Ibis suggestion meets with approval it would result in stirring up interest in local civic affairs and attract, candidates for (he offices of Councillors as well. Here are a lew of the borough requirements: —Water and drainage, footpaths, public, baths, acquiring and beautifying the old Maori cemetery, workers’ dwellings, acquisition of thy Round Bush as a scenic reserve, etc. We hope.a filtle life will be infused into civic affairs on the lines suggested, and that a keen contest will result.
