A cave on a certain property in the Lower Valley of the Wairarapa, says a contemporary, is said to contain a remarkable collection of moa bones, (he skeleton of a Maori do”', tuatara, lizards, and skeletons of an extinct bird of a dillerenl specie Ilian the moa. The foot of a moa, measuring’ over twelve inches in length, has been secured, together with a complete leg. The person who discovered the collection is of the opinion that excavation would bring to light an immense number of skeletons, and he is willing to reveal the cave to any representative of a public institution.
It is j-tiilod llml the Hamilton Hospital authorities have recently been entertaining unawares, not an angel, hut a shirker. Some little
time ago a ‘‘patient" was admitted, allegedly suffering from an injured •>pinc or some trouble which necessitated the use of crutches. - The mysterious injury or disease ha filled (lie.doctor for a while, and instead of railing in the services of another medical man. as is usually done in such eases, he consulted the police. The result was the arrival of a policeman at the hospital entrance, and an intimation to the “patient" from (he doctor (hat it was desirable in the former’s inter-1 ests that he remove to another? ward. While moving out of (he ward, leaning heavily on his crutches, he espied the policeman. Smelling a rat, the patient, displaying considerably more activity than he had shown since entering the hospital, thought lit to make his exit through another door. Here he discarded his crutches, and with the agility of a sprinter left the institution which had befriended him, with the constable in hot pursuit. The pursuit still continues.
