CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

MEETING OF COUNCIL,

The monthly meeting of the Council of the Foxton Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday afternoon. ' Present: Messrs Perreau (president), Barr, Bryant, Furrie, Fraser, Horn blow, Chrystall, Christie, Cronquest, Kellow and AVhibley. The secretary (Mr Mp.orhouse) reported that the Borough Council had granted the free itse of Council Chamber for meetings, and that Mr R. Moore had consented to act in the capacity of honorary solicitor to the Chamber. —Hearty votes of thanks were accorded Mr Moore and the Council.

The sum of £2 2s Oct was voted in response to an application from the Workers’ Educational Association towards the cost of establishing classes locally. WATER AND DRAINAGE.

The President said that, as the Borough Council was again taking the necessary steps to have a Avater and drainage scheme placed before the ratepayers, he thought the Chamber should do all in its poAver to assist the project. After discussion it Avas decided, on the motion of Messrs llornbloAV and Barr, to communicate Avith the Borough Council advising that body that the Chamber is pleased to see that steps are. being taken to resubmit a Avater and drainage scheme to the ratepayers, and that the Chamber Avill accord the Council all the support in its power. Guthrie on this matter, and it woidd be opportune for the members representing this district to join with Mr Parr, and urge upon the Minister the necessity of doing something to stop the sanddrift along this eoast. It was decided that Messrs Field, Newman and Veiteh, M's.P., be communicated with, and asked to urge upon the Minister for Lands the necessity for taking immediate steps to stop the sand-drift menace along (his (mast, between Paekakariki and Wanganui, and recommend (hat the Crown acquire such waste lands for afforestation or other purposes of utility; and that the Manawatu, Horowhemm and Kangitikei County Councils, Eoxtou, Wanganui and Levin Borough Councils, Otaki Town Board, and Wanganui Chamber of Commerce he asked lo co-op-erate. KAILWAY TIME-TABLE. Mr Enrrie, in referring to the railway time-table, said at the present time the afternoon train from Eoxtou arrived in Palmerston North five minutes after (ho Auckland Express had left. An endeavour should be made to get n connection with the Main Trunk by the afternoon train. It was decided to communicate with the District Traffic Manager, requesting that arrangements be made for the afternoon (rain to leave Eoxtou in time to connect with the Express, GENERAL.
