SENSATIONAL ACCIDENT.
A sensational accident occurred ns the Alain Trunk Irniu drew bile, t lie station n( Palmerston yeslordny. A man named Pnrton was hurrying Id slip on I he I rain in order lo seeure a. seal' for a lady, when he collided with a porler and fell beneath a carriage. Almost immediately a norwards the train was brought to a stop, but. nut before Purton was jammed in under the running gear. He was caught between (he interlocking points on (he ground and (bo compensation bar of (he bogie, which projecls over the wheels. He was held in this position from his shoulder to his loins, while his knees -were foreed up against Ihe platform and his head partially (wistod and pressed downwards. Three heavy jacks wore placed.in position under the carriage, whie.h was a heavy passenger coaeh, and in a very few minutes (he weigid of (he vohiele had been lifted off the pros!rate man. Me was removed lo his home, where a superlieial examination disclosed a had scalp wound, a blackened eye, and an ugly cut under the jaw. He also lost three feefh, and his body was badly bruised in purls, but no bones broken. He is apparently not injured internally, and is progressing satisfactorily.
