WAR PENSIONS.
THE DOMINION’S BILL
At 281 h February, the war pensions in force in New Zealand numbered 25,342, of an annual value of £.1,(508,213, and an average .value of £(»5. At Hie end of the last financial year the pensions numbered*! 1,497; animal value £994,383, average pension £92. From Ist April, 1918, to 28th February, 1919, 14,038 new .pensions were granted, of an annual value of £971,375, and an average pension of £O9. From this had to he deducted 3,193 pensions of an annual value of £207,545, cancelled or terminated by the death of the pensioner. The actual payments through the post office for war pensions paid in New Zealand to 28th February amounted to £1,041,000, to which must be added payments made outside the Dominion. The amount voted for pensions was £1,500,000, and there is a payment for March of anything up to £150,000 yet to pass through the accounts.
During a month’s tour of the South Island, recently completed, the Pensions Board dealt with SBl cases, 'including 614 renewals and lit) permanent pensions.
