BOWLING.
Yesterday afternoon three rinks from the local Club paid a visit to the Manawatu green. The weather conditions were ideal, and the visitors were most hospitably entertained. Foxton won the three games played, and on (he aggregate had the advantage hy 31 points, the scores being, Foxton 78, Manawatu -17. At the conclusion of the play, Mr C. F. Spooner, president of the Manawatu Club, thanked the Foxton players for the visit, and expressed the hope that similar visits would lake pla.ee between the two clubs from time to time. Mr F, D. Whibley thanked the Manawatu bowlers for the hourly reception (bey had received, and the ladies for the hospitality extended. He said that as far as the Foxton Club was concerned they preferred interclub friendly matches to “pot bunting,” and had (his year paid visits to a number of clubs in the district. He extended a very hearty invitation to bowlers visiting Foxton to their green. Cheers were given for (he two clubs, and lor the ladies. The following are the details of the play Foxton Manawalu. The Centre Champion of Champions singles was played on (he Manawatu green yesterday. The Chilis represented were; Palmerston, Daunevirke, Shannon, Levin, Terrace End, Foxton and Manawatu. The following are the results:— First round. —Hendry (Dannevirke) 21, heat Pollock (Levin) 15; Laumisou (Manawalu) 28, beat Seifert (Palmerston) 14; Clements (Tcraee End) .16, beat Roach (Shannon) 12; Whibley (Eoxton) a live.
Second round. —M hiblev 22 beat Hendry 14, Laurcnson 23 beat Clements 14,
The final between Lauren son and Whibley Avas closely contested tbroongbonf. With throe heads gone, (he score was three all, and at nine heads it Avas 10 all. Laurcnson scored two on the next head, hut honours Avere equal again after thirteen heads had been played, (be board then reading thirteen all. Laurcnson scored on the next three heads, 1 Hanging his score to eight-* eon. Whibley Hum scored a three — 18—16. On Hie nineteenth head Whibley was lying one, and had a bowl to play, but in attempting to draw another, just pushed the jack too far, and gave Laurcnson a couple. Foxton scored a single on the 20th head, and on the last bead was lying one, but Avanting throe to tic. attempted to kill the bead, and took out the shot bowl, leaving ManaAvatu two up. The final scores were; Laurcnson 22, Whibley 17. The final ofthe pairs champion of champions between Jones and Lanrenson (ManaAvatu) and Fargbcr and Roach (Shannon) avus also played yesterday afternoon. Both the Shannon players Avere draAving beautifully, and Avere in the lead throughout the game, eventually Avinning hy seven points, Shannon 24, ManaAvatu 17.
