WORKERS’ EDUCATIONAL ASSOCIATION.

The sub-committee, consisting of His Worship the Mayor, Dr. Mandl, and Messrs Furrie and Rowlatt, appointed to make arrangements for the inauguration of classes in Foxton, met at Dr. Mandl's residence •s last evening. Mr Furrie was appointed secretary for the preliminary arrangements. The amount required to he raised locally to set the classes on a definite footing will be £SO, which t will he paid to the Registrar of the University, under whose direction the classes are really formed, ultima I ely arriving at an extended university (raining available for men and women of all social and political shades. The money raised locally will carry a Government subsidy of £ for £. It was decided to make application for donations to : the following bodies; Chamber of Commerce, Co-Operative Society, Oddfellows’ and Druids’ Lodges, Foxton Branch of the N.Z. Labour Party and Racing Club. Several names have been handed in, and (ho prospects are very hopeful.- Anyone desirous of joining is advised to hand in (heir name to the secretary by Tuesday next to avoid being disappointed. The committee decided to make a canvas for the balance of the funds needed, and to meet on Monday next, to report progress and arrange for a preliminary of stndenls in (he Borough i Council Chambers on Wednesday evening, 26th instant. The fee payable on joining a class is small—from 2s (id to 5s per annum. The Association provides a. reference library and tutor. The only other expense for the student will probably be bis own text book. It will be left to the cla.-s to decide’ on its subject, but (ho favourite subject appears to he “Industrial Historv and Economics.”
