SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The monthly meeting of the above was held last night. Present: Messrs Rev'. Bredin, Martin, Perreau, Signal, Baildon, Claris and Woods. The Rev. Bredin was voted to the chaiiv Correspondence was read from the Board’s architect, asking what steps are to be taken re foundation stone of new school. It was proposed to ask the Minister for Education to lay the stone, and that the Minister and Chairman of Committee’s name be engraved thereon. A" letter from Mrs Heape, asking for particulars and expressing a wish to purchase piano, was received. The report from the Committee’s delegates to the School Committee’s Association was read and received. A letter was received from Mr Hornblow, tendering his resignation, as asked for by a petition at the request of Messrs McMurray and Kellow. Mr Martin moved, and Mr Signal seconded, that the resignation be not received. The Chairman and Mr Pcrreau said it was Mr Hornblow’s wish that his resignation he accepted, which was carried, and it was decided to place on "record an appreciation of .Mr Hornhlow’s services. The head teacher’s report was rend and received. It was decided to place the list of requirements asked for in the head teacher’s report before the Board, and to purchase those which the Board would not supply. It was decided that all requirements he purchased through the Committee. It was decided to refer the account for urgent repairs to the Gospel Hall to the Board for payment. Resolved to forward the resolution passed at a public meeting to the Board and Wanganui School Committee. Resolved to close (he school at 2 p.m. on Friday to afford the children an opportunity of hearing Mr Pirani’s lecture on Ids trip abroad. . Resolved to re-appoint Mr Hornblow to fill the vacancy on the Committee.
