CROQUET.
Next Wednesday will be a big day on the local croquet lawn, about 20 players from Levin being expected. Play will commence at 10 o’clock' in the morning. A. twenty-minutes tournament will be played, and the visitors will also play for the Hornblow Badges. In this game Mesdaraes Whibley and Perreau will represent the local club. The. visitors will be entertained at lunch by the local ladies at Mr Perreau’s rooms, and also at morning and afternoon tea on the green. Local ladies are requested to contribute refreshments. Mrs Mandl has presented a trophy for competition among the local players, and a commencement is to be made with this competition without delay. It will he decided on the progressive principle. The players Avill he graded into two sections, A and B players, and the A players will change (heir partners each match. The players in each section with the largest number of wins at (he conclusion of the competition to win the trophies.
