Delight I'ui weather prevailed for Mouloil's annual picnic on Friday last. I*arents were well represented, and quite a nnrnher id' .friends from !'’iix(un and Shannon were present. The caterin'*; of cakes, etc., was in’ the capable hands of Mr Roach, of Shannon, and the ladies of Monloa also provided sandwiches. A programme of sports events was arranged, and carried out hy Mr (ialland, headmaster, and assisted hy members of Hie School (,'ommiUee. Special prizes were 11gain a feature this year, and the (hanks id' the teachers are extended to the ladies and gentlemon who so kindly provided (Imm. The various events of - (he sports were keenly contested, and the results were: —Manned ladies’ race; (a) Mrs Whitlow 1, Airs W. Coley 2; (I.) Mrs -). Woods I, Mrs Hillman 2. Married men’s race: Air -I. Woods I, Air Seadden 2. Aiming men’s race: (a) S. Newth J, (I. AlcSaveney 2; (h) L. I’Jggot J, J. Xewlli 2. j’v (ug-of-war, married men v. single men, was very interesting. The single men put np a good tight, hut the weight of the married men was in (heir favour, and resulted in a win. AH Wilkins provided a small pig for the hoys to catch and pal in a sack, the successful hoy to receive hs; won hy W. Whitlow. The successful pupils for Hie special prizes were: Dux (prize donated hy AH F. Shaw), won hy Gladys Prior: highest proficiency marks (donated hy Afiv !■'. Shaw), won hy Tom Jefi'erys; for passing proficiency (donated hy Airs F. Shaw), won hy Rita .Jessup. Boys and girls: Best kepi Avon 1 her hooks (donated hy Mr (lalland), won hy A. Duncan and (,'. Shaw; highest marks in St.ds. 111. and IV., (donated hy Airs C. A. Spring), won hy K. and T. Spring. Sewing prizes, donated hy Airs Gihson, of Shannon, Airs AlcSaveney, Mouloa, and Miss Himhriek, were won hy AT. Shaw (Afarotiri), A. Duncan, K. Spring, C. Lampp, AI. Jeffreys, and B. AVhitlow. Diligence prizes, donated hy Airs Boswell, were won hy E. Firth, AI. Jeffries, V. Pigged and B. AVhitlow. Attendance prizes, donated hy Mr Watson, Shannon, were won hy Jean and Iris Campbell, Alary Jeffreys, and Duleie Boswell. At (he conclusion of the prize-giv-ing Mr Shaw gave the children a short address, and milled for cheers for Ihe teachers for the very able way they had got the children on.
The school will he closed to-mor-row (Wednesday), jo enable Mr Oalland anil Miss Limbrick to attend a teachers’ conference at Palmers lon North. Mi ss Limhrick has been offered, and has accepted, the position of assistant teacher at Obingaiti. Mrs Wingfield, an old resident of Bulls, is on a short visit to Moutoa, and is the guest of Mrs La.rnpp.
