OBITUARY.
THE HON. A. L. D. FRASER, M.L.C. The Hon. A. L. D. Fraser, M.L.C., whose death is recorded in a message as having taken place at an early hour yesterday morning at ’ Hastings, had been in failing health for some two years past, and only recently relumed from Australia, where lie had been on a health-re-cruiting trip. He was a native of Kaiapoi, where he was born in 1862, He settled in Hawke’s Bay in ISSI, whore lie followed his profession as a school teacher for some years. Later he removed to Hastings, whore he married a daughter of Mr W. T. Dennett, some time Mayor of that borough. Taking up Native Land Court advocacy, ho also served on the Hastings Borough Conned and as a member of the Hawke's Bay Licensing Committee. He unsneeessfully contested the Hawke’s Bay seat against Sir William Russell in 189(1, but'’ three years later » contestmg- the Napier scat defeated Mr R. 1). Douglas McLean, and was returned to the House of Representatives on December 271 h, 1809, being re-ejected in 1902 and 1905. In 190(> lie was, however, defeated by the present member, Air J. Vigor Brown, and in 1911, contesting the Hawke’s Bay seat, came fourth on the poll. He made no further attempt to secure Parliamentary honours until tiie death of the Hon. R. McNab in 1917, when lie again stood for the Hawke’s Bay seat, retiring at the last moment in favour of Sir John Findlay. He was “('ailed” to ' the Legislative Council by the National Government last year.
