CLEMENCEAU WOUNDED
A REVOLVER ASSAULT
ONE SHOT TAKES EFFECT. .London, Eel). 19. As M, Clemeneeau was leaving his home this morning, a man, who had been waiting, rapidly lircd live shots at him from a revolver. One bullet wounded M. Clcmenceau in the shoulder, but not dangerously, the others shattered the glass of the automobile which M. Clemeneeau was about to enter. The assailant was a young man named Emile Cottin, who is believed to be a Russian. M. Clemeneeau grappled with his assailant, who was arrested after being severely thrashed by the crowd. At the time of the attack, M. Clemeneeau was on his way to a conference with Mr Balfour and Colonel House. He walked home after the assault. To-day’s conferences have been cancelled. There is some anxiety as to the effect of the shock, owing to M. Glcmenceau’s age. It is officially stated that the wound is not serious. > ■ IN VERY GOOD SPIRITS, Paris, Feb. 20. An examination,under the X-rays shows that the bullet entered M. Clemeuceau’s lung. The patient’s general condition is good. M. Clemeneeau has sent a message to Mr Lloyd George,-saying: “I am doing very well.” The assailant is a working man, a Snydiealist. He confessed that he considered M. Clemeneeau a dangerous man for Europe, and had intended for tv long time to kill him.
