McKenzie, V.C., at St. Mark’s Church, Camberwell, at which Captain Carpenter, V.C., of the Vindictive, was present, Canon Vcazey, the vicar, read the following' message from the King and Queen: “In the special circumstances of Able Seaman McKenzie’s lamentable death, and the fact of his being a V.C., and, as you say, the lirsl London sailor to receive that most honourable award, you are authorised to express at the public funeral the sympathy of their Majesties to the widowed mother and family. Their Majesties were grieved to hear of his untimely death, and to think that he had been spared for so short a time to wear the decoration which he had so gallantly won.”
