ADRIATIC ADJUSTMENT.
The Milan ■ newspaper, ■ Secolo. deals in a leading article with the thorny question of Halo -Jugoslav relations. It says that the present, difficulties are the best proof of tiro soundness of the policy of conciliation which it*has always advocated, for the difficulties which have arisen show that the Adriatic problem is really one of the most complicated and insidious that can he faced. The main grievances of the Jugoslavs at the moment are tho coincidence of the boundary line fixed by the armistice with the line of the Treaty of London and the occupation of Eiume. As to the former, the Secolo remarks that, as declared in a Note issued hy the Italian Government, the armistice line, wars chosen for military reasons only, and must not be taken as the future frontier line. As to Fiiune, the Secolo would have preferred that the occupation of places along the coast had been made by allied, and not by Italian troops, “Under a relaxed censorship regime,” it continues, “we hope to he allowed to speak our mind frankly. We were always opposed to the Sonnino policy. Wo never approved of the Treaty 01. London, a secret treaty placing no moral obligation upon the Ilaliaupeople, just as the secret Treaty of the Triple Alliance had no moral binding force. We are convinced that in the interests of Italy the London Treaty ought not to he applied in its entirety, even if it could be. But, having said this, we wish to say with the same 1 rankness to the Jugoslavs and to some of our allied writers that they do not always deal with the problem of Italian and Jugoslav relations in a way best calculated to avoid misunderstanding and friction.’
