Cl rent interest was taken by tliu ratepayers in the Manawntu County in the poll taken yesterday on the. proposal that the system of rating lie on the unimproved value. In r counties the properly vote is still in existence, the number of votes that each, ratepayer is entitled to being based ujion the value oi' the properly he holds, with a maximum oil three voles. There were twelve pollin';’ places yesterday, and in all hut one the majority oi the votes werj cast in iavonr oi the proposal./i'he exception was where there was a majority oi 14 voles in favour of the existing system. The majority over the whole Counly in favour oi the unimproved value system oi rating was 480. The first, steps jo take a poll ou the question were taken hy C'r. •Janies Boyce, who represents Iho Kawa Kawa Biding, who circulated a petition and secured the necessary numlier oi names to have a poll taken. This was to have taken place on the last Wednesday in November, hut was postponed on account of the influenza epidemic. That the ratepayers in IT. Boyce’s Biding were behind him is shown by the figures, (lien Oroua, in which district he lives, putting up a vole of 50 for the proposal without a single vote being recorded against.
