FOXTON RACES.

A MOST SUCCESSFUL MEETING. The Foxton Racing Chib’s annual race meeting- hold yesterday was most successful. The weather conditions were very favourable, and the (rack was in first class order. The attendance of the public was particularly large, being a record for the (•oursc. The special train from Palmerston North was very well patronised, and a large number of motor and other vehicles were on the course. The arrangements throughout were first class, and tho secretary and stewards are to be congratulated on the manner in which the meeting was managed. The starting in the first (wo ra'ccs was bad, but the fault was not the starter’s, some lift Ic,hitch occurring with (he harrier. In the remaining races the starts were fairly good. The only department in which there was room for complaint was the judging. In the second race a large number of people wore of opinion that Idle Talk had won, hut the judge gave her second place. In the last race Sweet Tipperary was awarded second money, Iml there is no douhl. that Otara finished ip front of Sweet Tipperary. There was a hostile demonsfralion as the judge left the box, which was quite justified in view of the decision he had given. In view of the complaints at the Ashlmrst and Feilding meetings in the same connection, it is time (he Clubs in this district endeavoured to find a man to fill lire position who will gave satisfaction to all concerned. As far as the local Club is concerned a change would be welcomed by the public. The catering arrangements yesterday were in the bauds of Mr G. <l. Langley, and were satisfactory in every way. Owing to a mishap to Sarboaite in (lie first race, ail the races were late in starling. The (olalisator was well managed, but the facilities provided in connection with same are inadequate, and an extension in (Tic number of windows is absolutely necessary. A large amount of money was stmt out oi (be machine on account of the lack of facilities. The stand, and lawn accommodation was not sufficient for (be large attendance, but the committee have (his matter in hand, and it-is hoped that further accommodation and facilities will be available by the time the next meeting eomes round. The amount handled at the totalisalor yesterday was £'25,412, againsl £24,!)D5 last year, an increase of £417. The following are details of the races: —■ hack'HURDLES HANDICAP, of 175 soys. The public made Lord Nelson a fairly warm favourite, and Want, Sweet: Tipperary and First Jane were also well supported. The,start was delayed through Harbonile getting caught in the tapes, and losing his rider, with the result that (be race started half an hour laic, all the other races during the day beinir correspondingly late. A very poor start was effected, caused through the barrier not working properly, and (lie horses were .strung out from the jump. Sarbonite went out in front at a great pace, followed by Want and Kurapai, and this order was maintained until just before entering the straight, when Want took charge, and Saebonite was done. Halfway up the straight Idle Talk made her run and smothered everything for pace, but the judge’s decision was in favour of Carmel Arch, although a large number of people were of the opinion that lee mare had won. The margin in any case was very small. Gold Problem was very close up, with Beloved fourth. Winner trained by H. Rayuer.

At the seven furlongs peg Sweel Corn took charge, and piloted the others round the back. After a mile had been traversed, however,■ the heavy weight and pace told, and she fell hack. DASH HACK HANDICAP, of 150 sovs. Five and a-balf furlongs. 5 Air E. J. Altercation was an easy favourite, and after the straight was entered never left the result in doubt. There was a good race for second place, and the judge’s delusion was in favour of Sweet Tipperary, bat there is little doubt that Otara finished in front of Sweet Tipperary. There was a small hostile demonstration as the judge left the box, but ho refused to alter iiis decision, and the backers of Sweet Tipperary got a dividend they were not entitled to, whilst 040 tickets on Otara were so much waste paper, whereas the holders of same should have received the seeon dividend.
