A LONDON TRAGEDY.
MEDICAL OFFICER SHOT. London, Jan. 14. Major Miles Charles Seton, of the Australian Medical Corps, was shot dead at the house of his cousin, Sir Malcolm Seton, in Holland Park. Lieutenant-Colonel N. C. Rutherford, a Territorial medical officer, was arrested. Rutherford was charged at the West London Police Court with murder, and was remanded till the 22nd instant.It is understood that the accused, who had just arrived from the front, sought an interview with the deceased. The interview lasted ten minutes, and terminated with revolver shots. [The late Major Seton was a resident of Melbourne, where he acted as honorary anaesthetist at the Alfred Hospital. He served in the South African War. Mho’s Mho gives a note on Lieutenant-Colonel Nathaniel John Crawford Rutherford, R.A.M.C., D. 5.0., who also served in South Africa. He was mentioned in despatches and received the D.S.O. for his services in the European War. Sir Malcolm Seton is Secretary to the Judicial and Public Department of the India Office.]
