BRITISH AIRSHIPS.

SOME NEM' MONSTERS. PROJECTED FOR NAVAL WORK. London, Jan. 13. A big programme of airship construction by the Admiralty includes airships with a gas capacity of million cubic feel, a range of eight thousand miles, and a speed of sixty to seventy miles per hour. The ships will have a lifting capacity of sixty tons, and carry a crew of twenty-five. The first of the ships will he launched towards the end of the year. It is stated that they are primarily built for sea patrol and observation work, and will he stationed on the coast, [German Zeppelins, with a capacity of about one million cubic feet, measure 524 ft. in length and 58 ft. in diameter, but the dimensions of an airship of a given capacity vary widely according to its type, and the lifting power varies still more. A non-rigid airship has far greater, lifting capacity for a given volume* than one of the Zeppelin type, -which is already heavily loaded by the structure which keeps the envelope in shape. The capacity and lift quoted in this message indicate that the new airships are of unusual size and lift-efficiency, and the speed is very high for airships.]
