EDUCATION.
INSTITUTE FAVOURS ABOLITION OF BOARDS AND COMMITTEES. The New Zealand Educational Institute has passdd the following resolutions: — “That in lieu of the present nine Education Boards, there shall he appointed a National Board of Education.” “That the functions of the National Board shall be to advise Par-, liament, to promulgate curricula, to supervise the work of education committees and voluntary committees, to provide and control the teaching staff, to establish, close, or group s'ehools as may lie deemed necessary, and generally' to direct the educational functions of the nation.” “That local education authorities ho constituted to take the place of School Committees.” After some debate it was resolved (hat the constitution of the committees should he left to the subcommittee which is considering the constitution of the National Education Board. “The duty of the Education Committees shat! he (o direct, subject to (lie education hoard, the educational work of the area, to advise (lie education hoard Avith regard to sites and buildings, to arrange corelaled courses of study for the young people of the area, having regard to local conditions, to arrange for the co-operation in educational Avork of local agencies relater, or to he related to the schools (e.g., clubs, libraries. young people’s associations), lo establish and maintain continuation classes, to co-operate, in the maintenance of the health ot young people, generally to promote the good education of the young people of tiic area.”
