Manawatu Herald. SATURDAY, JANUARY 11, 1919. CHAMBER OP COMMERCE.

AT (he request of a (lumber of local business people, the Mayor (Mr John Chryslall) is taking slops to resuscitate the Foxton Chamber of Commerce. With this end in view a preliminary meeting will he held next week, when Mr J. A. Nash, M.P., and Mayor of Palmerston, will lie in attendance and discuss the proposal with local citizens. The old Chamber of Commerce was responsible for the re-constitution of IHe Harbour Board, which seemed to sap its vitality, for after this great work had been accomplished the Chamber became moribund. There is, however, a greater need to-day for the Chamber than ever before. Mailers in connection with the port, railways, hydro-electric power, and the hemp industry could be dealt with to advantage, and the Chamber act as a valuable adjunct to the Borough Council and Harbour Board. We hope the agitation will be enthusiastically taken up by local business men and settlers, with the object of advancing the welfare of the town and district.
