Principal assigned causes of insanity of cases reviewed in the New Zealand Mental Hospitals Report for .1(117 include 129 heredity; 5(1 congenital; 58 prolonged mental strain, of which 3!) were female patients; 9 solitude, of whom S were females; 7(i alcoholism, of whom (14 were females; one due to drug taking; 32 to syphilis, of whom 30 were females; 42 to epilepsy; 22 to ill-health; 108 causes unknown.
