A heavy sea encountered by the Kaitoa off Sinclair Head,fen Cook Strait, on Tuesday morning, swept Ordinary Seaman Janies Davey, aged 60, overboard.

Despite a strong south-east breeze, with heavy seas, Chief Officer Baggett and A.B.’.s Regd, Jamieson, and Samuelson, put off in a boat and effected a rescue at considerable risk of their own lives.
