FATAL ACCIDENT.

ELDERLY MAN KILLED,

Mastertoii, Dec. 27

A distressing fatality occurred on the road between Masterton and Castlepoiut to-day.

The mail coach was descending the hill known as Blairlogie Hill, when it met a carl,. The horse in the cart jumped up-hill and overthrew (he vehicle, which fell upon the leading horses of the coach, causing the hitter to dash over the embankment.

The coach was overturned, and live of the occupants were thrown out. Mr J. H. Campbell, manager for Mr Andrew's portion of lea station, aged Cl, susta in e d concu ssi o n of the brain, and died before medical aid arrived. Another passenger, named Clark, was pinned under the coach, but was not seriously injured.

The rest escaped with shakings
