CORRESPONDENCE.

(To the Editor.)

•Sir. —f noticed in your last issue that a new theatre is to he erected with a frontage to Main Street, f would ask our “cily fathers” to see that the full requirements of the Act are strictly enforced, for the sake of the public health and safety. I hold, Sir, that buildings to be used by the public, whether constmeted for private, or municipal gain, should comply in every detail with the laws of hygiene. For Ibis reason I would respeel fully suggest that when plans are sen! to the Council for the new hall (hat the said plans should he submitted to the Chief,' Health Oflieer for his approval before the Council passes them. I am pleased to know (hat (he proposed new theatre will mean the demolition of the old wooden structures new occupied as shops, which are a menace to Ihe town’s safety if they once caught alight, fanned by a good breeze, and no waler supply, Perhaps (he owners of (lie old wooden block of buildings on the opposite corner will follow suit with a decent brick block, l! would pay them in the long run. Well, Sir, I hope the Council will put its foot down good and hard on any attempt to erect jerry shacks and fire-bosea in Main Street. —I am, ole.,
