MOUTOA NOTES.

(Own Correspondent.)

With the returning draft expected to arrive in New Zealand on the 20th instant, two of our soldiers are coming borne, viz., Ptc. Len. Morgan, 28tb Reinforcements, second son of Mrs Morgan, late of Mo ato a and now of Levin, and Pte. J. Woods, N.Z.R.8., 3Gth Reinforcements, of Moutou. Mr J. Galland, of the Moutna school, is to be congratulated on the success of his senior pupils. The following were presented: — Rita Jessop, Gladys Prior, Thomas Jeffreys, and all secured their proficiency certificates.

Matters are back again to normal in Montoa, and with the “hope that will not die away” we are looking forward to the festive season.

Hay-making has commenced, and will go forward provided the weather remains propitious.

Mrs R. J. Mohekey has returned from her sad errand in Masterton, and this stricken mother tells me that hardly one house iu Masterton escaped without loss. The nurses went down like ninepins, and that young girls of fifteen, working under skilled direction, were quite a stand-bye in those dark days. Mrs Loiiis Mohekey, who had the misfortune to lose her husband with the epidemic, is spending, with her children, a visit, in Montoa, and is the guest of Mrs Mohekey, senr. Mrs J. Murdock, at Marotiri, is leaving for Christchurch on Wednesday next, on an extended visit to her people.
