TRAGEDY AT KARAMEA.

QUICKSAND,
Westport, Yesterday,
An awful tragedy occurred at Karamea last evening, a! ti o’clock, c.ccoiinting for the lives of Mrs Theimer, her two children, and a man named Harry Harris.
Its Karamea correspondent has telephoned (lie Westport. Times (he following particulars;—At !) o'clock Dr. Theimer, his wife, and two children went out from Karamea jo 'pend some lilile time on the Oparara Beach, a couple of miles to the north. The doctor rode on horseback, but Mrs Theimer and ihc family rode in a gig driven by Harry Harris. On their way home at (i a clock, the doctor forded the Oparai'a, the horse having swum from dm south hank of the river. He
sang on! to his wife (hat (he tide was dangerous, and she had better go further down stream, where it was thought the water was shallower, Harris did as directed. When, half-way across (he -horse and gig got among a quicksand, or “pothole,” or something of the kind, and sifter a few splashes all disappeared. The body of Mrs Theimer has been recovered. Search parties are out.
