OBITUARY

LIONEL EARL LA ROE—AGED 38

On Sunday morning the epidemic claimed .another Fox ton victim, in the person of Mr Lionel Earl Large, who passed away at his residence, Avenue Road, shortly after one o’clock. The deceased was taken ill about a fortnight previous to his death, and after a few days developed bronchial pneumonia, and later jaundice. Despite every attention he gradually got worse, and for several days before his death remained in a most critical condition. The late Mr Large was deservedly popular with all who knew him, being a good-hearted, genial man, and will be greatly missed from our midst. He was a very prominent member of the Potxon Bowling Club, of which he had just entered into his third year as honorary secretary. He was a most enthusiastic bowler, and in Ids position as secretary had done splendid service for Hie Clnh. In all matters having for their object the advancement of the (own and district tie took a keen interest, and was (he class of citizen that Poxton can illaff'ord to lose. He was a member of the local Druids’ Lodge, having joined Hie Order only five weeks prior to his death. The late Mr Large, who was 38 years of age, was a native of England, being born in Leicestershire. He came out to Australia about ten years ago. His wife, who was a native of Hie same town in England, afterwards came out.,to Australia, and they were married in Sydney eight years ago. Two years la I either came to New Zealand, and after residing in Auckland and Wellington, came to Poxton in Hie early part of H)ls. When lic first came to Poxton, the late Mr Large managed a drapery business for a short period for Messrs Pearson ami Co., of Wellington. He look over the business at the end of March, 3915, and, starting in a small way, was gradually working the business up.

The deceased is survived by a widow and three young daughters, to whom the sympathy of the citizens goes out in the irreparable loss they have sustained.

The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon, when a large number of residents attended to pay their last respects to deceased. The pallbearers were six prominent members of the Fox ton Bowling Club, and the Club was also represented by practically every member able to attend. The Druids’ Lodge was also represented. The casekt was .covered with wreaths. The burial service was conducted by the Rev. J. H. Bredin, of the local Presbyterian Church.
