WAR LEGISLATION.
A BILL OP WHIP RANGE. The War Legislation Bill, which passed the Committee stage in the. House of Representatives, covers a wide variety of subjects, including persons of enemy origin, tenancy of houses, and awards of the Arbitration Court.
In one clause added to Hie Bill authority was given for the cancellation of warrants for the arrest of person.-; who are proved to have served beyond the seas in (he present war, where the Attorney-Gen-eral and the Minister of Justice are of opinion Hint a pros,pent ion is not neessary in the public interst. The following provisions were embodied in other new clauses.
Clause 20 empowers additional provisions for the protection of soldiers and discharged soldiers from judicial process. Clause 21 extends to discharged soldiers (he right to apply for relief from burdensome contracts to which they may he parlies at Hu; date of (heir discharge. Clause 22 extends the right to requisition for military supplies to make it applicable to supplies for the purposes of an Expeditionary Force, whether during or after the present war.
Clause 23 validates war regulations.
Clause 24 provides penalties for any person without authorisation of the Governor-General acting as representative of a foreign State.
