DISTRICT HOSPITAL.
THREE is one matter which must be impressed upon the Palmerston District Hospital Board in the future, and that is that the hospital and its full equipment is not a local institution, but that it is (lie common property of the whole hospital district extending from Otaki to Feilding. Because of its location, it docsirl follow (hat it is a Palmcrslon institution. When the epidemic got a hold of Palmerston, the Fox ton representative was told to make every provision to .-et up a temporary hospital, and (real local cases. This was done. <lc<piUf the tact that we had onlv one woman
with special t raining for the district, and one doctor to attend to a .scattered population-ot' over three thousand. Bess than a dozen women were available to take on the work of nursing in (ho two temporary hospitals and in the stricken homes. An appeal for (ho loan of one trained nurse for a week was refused, and this meant increasing (he work and anxiety of the doctor. Provision at the district hospital should have.been made for til least a dozen of our worst patients, as we believe quite a number of Palmerston patients were hustled into (lie hospital who could have been attended in their own homes, or in the temporary hospitals, Foxtoii has not only been called upon to look tiflcr (is own (-uses, but has bad to attend to out-disl riels cases a< well.
