OBITUARY.

THOMAS .WILEY EAST-

AGED 53.

AA r e regret to record the death of another of Foxton’s esteemer residents in the person of Air Thomas Wiley East, which took place at the Catholic School Temporary Hospital on Sunday night. The cause of death was complications following intluenza. The late Mr East, who was 53 years of age, was a son of the late Air Joseph F. East and Airs East, of Nelson, his mother now being just on 80 years of age. He caiue to Fox ton 30 years ago, and has resided here ever since. He was highly respected by all with whom he came in contact, and his untimely death is much regretted. His wife died two years ago. He leaves two sons, Arthur’, who recently returned from service in Samoa, and is at present seriously ill with influenza, and Thomas, at present with the Now Zealand Forces in France. He has two brothers, Air John East, of Feilding, and Air* Arthur East, of Nelson, and five sisters. The funeral took place this afternoon. The local Catholic community will regret to learn of the death of the Rev, Father Cronin, who ollieiatod as local parish priest during the absence of the late Rev. Father Dove. He succumbed to intluenza at Carterton on Sunday. The late Fattier Danicll Cronin bad only recently taken up bis duties as parish priest in Carterton. He had been most untiring in his efforts on behalf of (lie stricken in that district, contracted tho disease himself a few days ago, and died as stated above. He was about 33 years of age, and he will be sadlv missed.

Father Michael Lewin was another victim of the epidemic. He had been sent to Feather.-Jim Camp to relieve Father Phelan, and it was in the course of his strenuous work as aeliiig-ehaplain at the Camp that Father Lewin in turn was stricken down and died vesterdav.
