A charge of tohungaism was preferred against a .Maori al Port .'iW-anui last week. Accused, who was represented by counsel, pleaded not guilty, but after hearing' the police evidence substituted a plea of guilty. A conviction was recorded, and Mrd. S. Barton, S.M.. announced that he would withhold sentence .for two days to enable accused to break up his camp. If this was not done the accused would be sentenced to imprisonment; On receipt of a report from the police that the camp had been dispersed, the magistrate imposed a line of £ls and costs.
