The Consul-General l°r Japan to Now Zealand, Mr S. Shimizu, has forwarded a eopy of ordinances issued by the Department of Agriculture and Commerce of the .Imperial Japanese Government with reference to matches, glassware, enamelware, braids, and hosiery, with a view to maintaining' the quality of the articles exported. Under these ordinances articles (hat do not pass the inspection of the Trades Association or their Union Association will not be permitted to be exported. Articles which come up to standard will bear a certification stamp bearing the words: “Passed by the Prefecture! Office, Japan.’’ The orders slate that matches will not be permitted to be exported if the lip is not dry enough or ignition is insufficient, or they give 100 much smoke. In the case of enamelwarc, unless bearing in English an indication that the bottoms or sides are either “jointed” or “soldered,” and with respect to glassware anything crooked, malformed, or incompletely annealed will be prohibited from export.
