WHAT IS A WOWSER?

ANOTHER REFLNITTON.

The Rev. S. W. M.-Kibbin. Methodist minister at Corake, in delining “wowser,” according- to a Sydney paper, recently said: “He whose religion made him arrogant, intolerant, narrow, suspicious, callous, and, indifferent to the good in the good, as well as the good in the had, was a religious wowser, whether he be a Methodist or a Roman Catholic. There were other varieties. A man was a wowser who made a big cheque every month and slung God sixpence with a hole in it once a year when he went to church. A man was a wowser who dodged his moral obligations in (his world and hoped to steal into Heaven by the back dour when the other chap's ticket was being examined. Landlords and profiteers, who extracted the last drop of blood from flic needy poor, were wowsers. If every person who held the price of commodifies and rents iti his hand were to say he would cease from being a wowser the cost of living would go down with a bang. A man who made his living selling grog was a wowser nine times out of ten. Let them cease from calling people wowsers, until they were decent enough to put a Jireslick info (heir grogshops and do a bit of respectable work for their living. Sometimes to tie called a wowser was a compliment. Paul was a wowser, and lie saved Christianity. Luther was a wowser, and he saved religion. Wesley was a wowser, and he saved America. Jcllicoc and Real lie were wowsers. Jesus was a wowser, and He saved the world.”
