MOUTOA NOTES.
(Own Correspondent.) The evening held by our young men a short time ago in aid of St. Dmislan's Hospital for blind soldiers was a deeided success, and the promoters, Mr Kenneth Boss (chairman) and Air llughie Macdonald (secretary) are to be congratulated ou their joint efforts. Airs .Williams, of Foxton, provided the music, and songs were contributed by Messrs Allan Carter and G. Larking, of Shannon, and Macdonald, of Aloutoa, and greatly added to the success of the evening. The competitions were won hy the following: Cake, donated by Air Macdonald, Aliss Rita Jcssop; 10s note, donated by Air Albert Pmv, Air Bert Alohekey; lin of biscuits, donated by Air Cecil Morgan, Air E. T. Shaw. Close on £lO was collected for the (muse, and who have a greater claim on our sympathies than the blind soldiers, afflicted in our defence? ‘ Austria's surrender was celebrat,ed in Aloutoa by the prolonged blowing of Whitiiunui, Ltd.’s, big whistle ami the cessation of all work for the remainder of the day. Air Jack Newth had the misfortune to meet with an accident this week. The shaft of (he milk curt broke, and a tank containing sour milk fell mi him. Fortunately, his injuries were not so serious as was at first supposed. Airs Firth is again an inmate of the Palmerston North District Hospital, the unfavourable weather retarding complete recovery. Air W. S. Curler has installed one of the latest and most up-to-date milking plants on his farm at Afoutoa, and close on a hundred cows arc being pul through with the greatesl dispatch yet attained arouml here. One or two cases of inlluenza arc imported here, and croup is very prevalent among (he children. AVe acknowledge receipt of circular on behalf of Hie Rev. .David Campbell, of Wanganui, and Miss Nancy Wilson, of Bulls, joint secretaries for the Camp Committee for the Wanganui and Wellington North provinces to all sympathisers, helpers and friends, soliciting donations of rations and money towards a proposed scout camp at Wanganui, from December 20th to January 4th, the Victoria Avenue School having been secured for the purpose. An effort will be made in Aloulon by some of the old Scout hoys to raise something for the cause. A.t a meeting held on October 25th it, was decided, owing to the prevailing lack of interest, to close the Aloutoa Sick and Wounded Soldiers’ Fund, and lo request (hose in arrears to pay up to the month of October. Aloney in hand to he forwarded to the British Red Cross Fund.
