FAIR NOTES.
A meeting of committee and stallholders was held in the Council Chamber yesterday afternoon, when progress was reported. » ' 9 9 •
The positions of the various stalls in the hall were fixed. It was decided to organise a working bee for G. 30 o’clock on Thursday morning to erect stalls. School Committeemen and ex-pupils are invited to come along and put in an hour. ••' • *
The stall-holders decided to arrange their own decoratings. 9 * « *
Mr Gabites gave a brief outline of the musical arrangements. * » * »
The baby show is going to he quite an attraction in the afternoon. Two prizes will be given to the best babies under six months of age, and two for babies under 12 months. The judge will be the Mayor of Palmerston, Mi’ J. A. Nash.
The sweets and soft drinks stall will he located in the centre of the hall. '
There will lie a diversity of competitions, including nail driving and other games of skill.
Mr Claris has donated a magic lantern and 4 dozen slides to the jumble stall. It is a line turn-out, and should find a ready purchaser.
The floAvor and produce stall will make a brave display. Slice]), sucking pigs, poultry, bams, vegetables, jams, preserves, etc.
Several further cash donations have been received, also gifts from various sources. There is still plenty of room on the stalls for move gifts.
Tl ie Shannon Co-operali ve Dairy Co. Ims donated 12ihs. of its famous butter to the afternoon lea department. All surplus butter Avill he sold.
School children arc specially invited to participate in the procession being arranged by Mr Goider. In order to make the procession attractive, those wlio can make it convenient are invited to participate — in fancy costume if possible.
The cake stall acknowledges cash donation of £1 from “Poor Working Man/’ and a va.se from .Mr Oxley.
Air Large lias donated two prizes for the baby show —a silk bonnet for the best baby girl under six months, and silk hat for the best baby boy. The articles lo be selected from Ids stock by the winners. * * $ * Mayor Chrystall has donated two guineas to the Fair Fund. Mr Healey lias also received some toilet ware and perfumes from Wellington warehousemen for the sweets stall. Mr Lisle a donation of 10s.
The sugar bag competition is taking on. 'The jumble stall is giving (wo prizes, one for (he most useful article made from a sugar hag, and one for the most effective piece of work. Bo sure and see these articles.
Tito millers have donated two tons of low to the Fair, which Humid realise at least £lO. Each miller has donated (wo bales each.
A idee Christmas cake made by Airs Healey, and iced by Aliss Woodroofc, is cm view in Air Healey’s shop window. Tickets Gd each.
The produce shill, under Mesduiues A. S. Enslon, W. Signal, and Miss Borlasc, is out for record business. Sucking- pigs, sheep, a lamb, bulter, etc., will be on sale. The stall holders also acknowledge eggs and p.b. while Leghorn chickens from Mr M. If. Walker, and cash donation of £1 from Mr D. Purcell.
