MOUTOA NOTES.

(Own Correspondent.)

Our recent shop day proved very satisfactory, and was a very entertaining as well as a remunerative day. With a little persuasion it is thought (he Montoa men would take charge next shop day.

We note another of our soldiers is coming home in a returning draft, Pvte. A. Harper, of Marotiri.

Mr R. Bell, the consulting manager of Whitaumti, Ltd., who has been recuperating at Rotorua, returned by express to-day. Mrs C. Eirlh, of Whitanniii, is still an inmate of the Palmerston N. District Hospital, and is progressing as well as can he expected under such adverse weather conditions.

An evening is being held by our young men in the Montoa school on Friday next, in aid of SI. Diinslan’s Hospital for Blind Soldims. The secretary, Mr Hnghio Macdonald, lias the matter well in hand, and visitors can he assured of a very pleasant evening. It is hoped a good sum will be raised for this deserving cause.

A meeting in connection with (he Sick and Wounded Soldiers’ Fund was held in the school on Monday, I4th hist. Doubtless the* unfavourable night was responsible for the poor attendance. Several matters of interest were held over till Friday, 25th insb, when another meeting will he held, and a full attendance is requested.
