Manawatu Herald TUESDAY, OCTOBER 15, 1918. A MATTER OF URGENCY.
THE public is beginning to ask when the new school is to be erected. Jt is also dawning upon parents that several ol the buildings being used as temporary class-rooms will not be conducive to the health ol the children as the warm weather approaches. Jn one building two large classes are packed. This fact did not escape the observation and adverse criticism ol' the Chief.' Inspector. Jn another building sufficient ventilation is impossible, owing to the large windows being lixttires and immovable. On top ol this is the Joss ol lime and inconvenience caused through the daily arranging ol paraphernalia. The supervision ol the classes Ims added to the responsibilities ol the head master, who, in order that Sixth Standard pupils shall not; sutler through the general mix-up, has voluntarily taken them i'or an extra period on Saturday--. The stall' throughout is doing its very best under the trying circumstances. But this slate ol allairs must not be allowed to go on indefinitely. A month has passed, and so far only a sketch proposal ol the new building has been produced. 11 matters are not accelerated it will be at least - a year bel'ore the new school is ready lor occupation. The new building should be urged upon the Board and Department as a matter ol extreme urgency, and red tape methods ol delay should be avoided.
