INFECTIOUS DISEASE.

NEW ZEALAND FIGURES. For the week ended at noon, 7th October, the total of cases of infectious disease reported to the Public Health officers throughout the Dominion was 157, comprising 34 of scarlet fever, 87 of diphtheria, 29 of tuberculosis, -1 of c.s.m., 2 of septicoemea, and 1 of infantile paralysis. The diphtheria figures include 18 in North Canterbury, 10 in Auckland, 8 in Palmerston North, 7 in AVairarapa, and 6in AVellington. In all cases it must lie understood that tho places for which the figures are quoted include the district adjacent to file etiy or town. Otago heads the scarlet fever list with 13 eases.
