STATE SCHOOL FIRE.
AN UNSIGNED CONFESSION. The following note was placed under our office door last night. It was addressed to “Mr Hornhlow, Foxton,” and underneath was written in bold letters “important, please open,” in ink. The letter is written in pencil, and reads as follows; “Mr Hornhlow. —I suppose you are wondering how the school caught on fire. Well, I will tell you the whole secret, which must he published in your paper. I went in (he front gate and entered the school hy way of a window which was opened in the infants’ roonj. This was about one o’clock. After making a thorough search of (he building, I thought I had better fire it. So I collected a number of girls’ sewing bags from a room unknown to me. I then went into Standard IT. and piled them up in a corner of the room. I put a couple of chairs on the heap and then put a match to the heap. I then made my way out the same as I came in, and escaped in the dark. About live or ten minutes later (he alarm was given. This is absolutely true, and must be published in the paper for the whole public.—l am, etc.” There is no signature. The letter has been handed to the police for investigation.
