PROPOSED PUBLIC EFFORT

LADIES’ PATRIOTIC GUILD GIVE A LEAD.

A statement was made by the Chairman of the local Stale School Committee some time since that it would require a sum of at least £2OO to replace furniture and extras destroyed in the old building. The Board, through the Department, supply the regulation furniture and equipment; for the school, hut there are many things required outside the essentials |o improve (be environment of the interior. A piano, drums and bugles, pictures, extras for the baby classes, etc,, will he necessary, and for this purpose an aNpcal will he made to the public. At a meeting of (he Patriotic Society it was suggested to the Ladies-Patriotic Guild that a shop day he set aside for (his purpose. The Guild, however, after consideration, decided that it would not he wise to create a precedent in tiris connection, hut decided fo offer assistance in organising a big; public effort. At last night’s meeting of ihe School Committee a letter wa-x-end from the Guild, offering to arrange a fair in aid of the fund, and suggesting that a meeting of all interested he held in the Council Chamber at 3 o’clock on Wednes--day (to-niorx’ow). It was resolved to accept the Guild’s offer with thanks, and to attend the meeting and to extend an invitation to teachers and parents to be present. The Committee expressed appreciation of the Guild’s voluntary and generous offer, and promised to assist them in every way possible.
