FOOTBALL.
A meeting of footballers ami supporters was held in Mr Permiu’s rooms last night for tin* purpose of presenting the Petrie Sliield to the winners of the competition, Crusaders. Mr P. D. AVbibley occupied the chair, and on behalf of the donor, Mr Prank Petrie, presented the shield to Mr McPherson, captain of the Crusaders, who accepted it on behalf of the team. In handing over the trophy, Mr Wliibley referred to the sportsmanlike manner in. which both Mr Perreau, donor of the Cup Avhieh had been presented at last week's dance, and Mr Petrie had eome forward and donated the trophies for competition, The games between the two teams had been played in the best of spirit, and laid created keen competition, and he assured the donors that the players and supporters appreciated their kindness very mueh. He congratulated the winners on (heir success, and expressed the hope that the same keen competition and good feeling would prevail in future contests. Mir McPherson,.on behalf of his team, returned (hanks. Opportunity was also taken to make a presentation of a wristlet watch to Mr McPherson, who is to go into camp within the next week or so. The chairman said that the footballers and other friends of Mr McPherson felt they could not let him depart without showing in some small degree the esteem in which he was held. He had proved himself a real sportsman and a good fellow, and they all wished him a safe and speedy return. Mr McPherson suitably re sponded.
