STATE SCHOOL AFFAIRS.
The Chairman of Committee and head teacher of the local State School proceeded to Wanganui on Tuesday, and conferred with the secretary of the Board (Mr Swanger) re furniture, stationery, and other material required to curry on the work of the various classes. As previously mentioned, the school contents wore destroyed wit it the building. The loss to the pupils represented a considerable sum in the aggregate. The Board Secretary was fortunately able to supply a good deal of the school equipment from ihe Board’s stock, winch, however, owing to war conditions, is much depleted. The Board storeroom was ransacked, and tho Secretary was as keenly enthusiastic to supply pressing needs to carry on as the head teacher was to.obtain same. When the lengthy list of requirements was completed, the loss of the scholars’ hooks was discussed. While the Board is unable to make good such loss, arrangements were made to obtain certain books, which are to be supplied (o the scholars at wholesale cost. Full details in this connect ion will he explained to the scholars, and parents will he assisted as far as possible. In respect to the re-erection of the school, plans are being prepared immediately, and will he formally submitted to the Committee before going on to the Department for consideration and sanction. The Board’s workmen in the meantime will make things as comfortable as possible for the children in the temporary class-rooms. The Chairman and Head Teacher thanked the .Secretary on behalf of the Committee and parents for his practical sympathy and the efforts he-is putting forth on behalf of the Board to meet the situation.
