CURE FOR CONSUMPTION.
An announcement made by Herr Robert Schneider, a Berlin chemist, indicates another cure for consumption. His remedy is not a scrum, hut simply the inhalation of oil of eucalyptus, mixed with sulphur and charcoal, which compost is evaporated over .specially constructed alcohol lamps, the vapour being inhaled by the patients. The cure is the result of Herr Schneider’s wanderings in Australia, While travelling there lie observed 1 hat in those parts of the country where the eucalyptus grew luxuriantly, consumption is practically unknown. He also noticed that when consumptives came to such places they showed signs of relief. Herr Schneider communicated his observations to German lung specialists, who, on the strength of ids information decided upon a new treatment of tuberculosis. Under the suuervisioii of Professor Sommerfield, a physician of great reputation, the new method was tried at several hospitals for about six mouths, at the end of which time the most gratifying results were recorded. Of Iffff cases of tuberculosis, including all stages of the disease, sixty were pronounced entirely cured. In some cases the patients were kept day and night in the atmosphere thus impregnated until they showed signs of relief.
