NEWS IN BRIEF.
A Catholic soldier, dying in France, not speaking French, made his confession through a Protestant woman interpreter in a Y.M.C.A. hut. Excluding officers, non-commissi-oned officers, and invalids, there are in Great Britain some 30,000 enemy prisoners, all hut 400 of whom are at work. Ail washable tablecloths and napkins remaining unsold in shops throughout Germany have been commandeered by the Imperial Clothing Office for army use.
