TOWN CLERK’S REPORT.

The acting-Town Clerk reported as follows .at Monday night’s Council meeting:— “The road staff has been engaged on the following works since the last meeting of the Council, viz., cleaning the water channels, and genera! maintenance on (he various streets, principally spreading and binding metal on the Moutou Road, Union and Cook Streets. A start has also been made with the covering of the sand drift in Brown Street. I omitted to mention in last, month’s report that the tlaxmillers of Harbour Street had taken delivery of the 25 yards of metal allowed them for that street, and same was spread under the supervision of the road foreman (Mr Huntley). The Belmont Quarry Coy. have more than fnllilled the order placed with them for the delivery of 550 tons of metal —up to date (>l2 tons 19 cwt. has been supplied, and of the order placed with Dir. Buick 154 yards have come to hand, leaving a balance of about 100 yards. Mr Murphy has completed his contract for the carting of 300 yards of metal. Mr Huntley advises that a blockage of the walertahle in Cook Street has occurred through a resident filling in the walertahle instead of putting in a proper culvert.’’ who was present at the meeting, said that about 50 yards more of Belmont metal was .required to complete Union Street. Bractically all Ihe Belmont metal had been put on Union Street, and only twelve chains remained to he done. The blockage of the water!able in Cook Street had resulted in the properties in the vicinity being Hooded by the recent heavy rain. The report was adopted, and it was decided to notify Mr Hynes to put in a proper culvert in the watertable where blocked; also to order a further 50 yards of Belmont metal.
