SCHOOL SANITATION FEES.
A IMPLICATION FOR REDUCTION. FROAI ST. MARY’S SCHOOL. At last night’s Council meeting, Father Forrcslal, on behalf of St. Mary’s Parish Committee, made application for a rebate on the sanitation charges iu connection with their school. They asked for the same treatment as (he Stale School Committee, which had been granted a redact ion of half the tees. The Alayor moved, and Cr Coley Coley seconded, that the Council regrets it cannot accede to the request, as it would create an undesirable precedent. In speaking to the motion, the Mayor said that Father Corley hud approached him on the same subject twelve months ago, and he had then pointed out that if they granted a concession other denominations would also make application Cor same. He considered it would he unwise to accede to the present request. Cr Hurley said he did u.d know what reason (lie Council had for making a reduction in the ease* of the State .school. They shouldn’t single out one school for special treatment. Personally he did not think a rebate should be given to any school. As far as the State school was concerned, it was the fluty of the Government to provide the necessary funds, and tin 1 Council should not be called upon to make any reduction. Cr Henderson said it would not do to make any concession other than to the Slate school. The motion was carried.
